Thousands of tonnes of top-soil and an industrial-sized farming vehicle have been destroyed in a fire.

The London Fire Brigade were alerted to the blaze at a farm on The Ridgeway in Enfield on June 14 at around 5.28am.

A passing motorist noticed the fire which consumed the top layer of two thousand tonnes of mulch and a large mechanical mulcher.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters from Barnet, Enfield, Mill Hill, Southgate and Edmonton attended the scene. One fire engine from Hertfordshire fire and rescue service was also there.

Station manager, Karl Smith, said: “A passing motorist called the Brigade. Fortunately, no one was on site at the time of the blaze and therefore no injuries are reported.

“Crews worked hard to put the fire out and remained on site throughout the night to ensure that there were no deep-seated pockets of fire to ensure the blaze was completely out.”

The fire was under control 8.24am and an investigation into the source of the blaze is underway.
