A history teacher has published her first book, all about the trials and tribulations of dating.

What They Don’t Tell You About Being Single by Tumi Olaoshun, 30, from Edgware, looks at whether being single in 2018 is tough – particularly if you are Christian, as she is.

Tumi writes the book looking at the things that she was unaware of as a Christian woman and relationships. She believes that there are some issues that are less openly discussed among younger Christian women, like how do you deal with sex before marriage? Or, how do I know if a guy has the right intention?

Tumi says: “I wrote this book because I was tired of making the same mistakes, when it came to relationships and men. I was even more surprised when I would have conversations with my girlfriends or younger friends and they would share the same issues.

“Despite what the world thinks, there is a growing generation who love Jesus and desire to honour him, even with their romantic relationships. Does this book have all the answers?

“Absolutely not, that’s what the bible is for. But I figured, if I have had learnt some of these lessons earlier, perhaps I could have avoided some of these mistakes. It is often said, our mistakes and successes are not just for us but for others to learn from.”

Expanding further on the inspiration for writing this book, Tumi adds that, “I wanted to take this step, to share my wounds and guide others in some things I learnt the hard way. So that perhaps another woman could avoid doing the same thing. It is important that those of the Christian faith, speak up about the issues that young people go through.

“Although this book barely scratches the surface, I am hoping that by being honest about some of my experiences, we can have a honest dialogue that will spark a change and awareness around us.”
