Six parks have retained its ‘Green Flag’ status after the list of the best parks in the UK was revealed.

The parks in Hertsmere have all been recognised as an “outstanding green space” and are among 1,883 in the country to receive the award.

This year, Mary Forsdyke Garden and Warren Lake in Bushey Heath has been added to the list.

It joins King George Recreation Ground in Bushey, which has held Green Flag status for 20 years, and Aberford Park in Borehamwood, which has been recognised now for 11 years.

Oakmere Park in Potters Bar is on the list alongside Fishers Field Nature Reserve in Bushey which received a special Green Flag Community Award for the tenth time.

For the eighth year in a row, Bushey Rose Garden received Green Heritage Site accreditation thanks to its historic features and standard of conservation.

Mary Forsdyke Garden and Warren Lake has won the accolade following extensive improvements last year. The lake was desilted, a boardwalk was installed across the lake, and there was planting and landscaping enhancements.

Cllr Seamus Quilty, responsible for the environment in Hertsmere, thanked the volunteers who put in hard work and “dedication” in keeping the parks to a high standard.

He said: “We're absolutely delighted to be awarded with these Green Flag awards for yet another year. We know how much quality green spaces matter to our residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks and open spaces to such a high standard.

“We recognise that quality parks and green spaces are important to local people and essential to healthy, happy communities, so we will continue to work hard to maintain these special places where residents can come together to rest, relax, play, exercise and have fun.

"Our parks offer a wide range of recreational activities to local people of all ages and are free to use. Let’s hope the excellent hot weather continues so everyone can make the most of them as the school holidays get underway.”

Parks with Green Flag status have a green flag which flies overhead. It tells visitors that the park has the “highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities”.
