O'Toole earns contract extension

JOHN-JOE O'TOOLE has been given a contract extension until 2011 after impressing this season.

The 19-year-old Watford midfielder's form has caught Aidy Boothroyd's eye so much that he was rewarded despite getting a one-year contract in September.

O'Toole made his debut for the Hornets in the Carling Cup defeat at Southend United last August.

The Ireland Under-21 player netted his first goal for Watford against Bristol City in December and his second inspired them to a memorable comeback win at Colchester later in the month.

O'Toole said: "It feels good. It's not often a player signs two contracts in a year, but I like to think that shows that the manager must have faith in me and I'm thankful for that."

Colin, good that you made point, same point that you always make to be fair, so nothing if not unpredictable eh??
This is good news for JJ and the club, the boy is showing good potential and as he is only on a short-term deal I think this shows good sense

Here we have a young lad with potential, and we've secured him on a long deal. Good news.

Don't know which is worse, colin's views or the WO for allowing his last sentence on their website. Lawsuit anyone?

Oh come on clappers, dont try and tell me that this was the news item you were looking for. This is just yet more spin....unable to sign any quality, oh I know, we'll give another "promising youngster!" another contract.

Ok this lad plays with some balls - for now - but he has no real ability; in fact he's just another huffer and puffer and we have too many of those already.

We need some flippin creativity in the middle...im sick of saying this. In my view this is a pathetic attempt to divert attention away from our negiligence in the transfer market...disgusting and cynical. Fact...this lad will amount to nothing...what we need is a player with a brain and an eye for a pass....not another williamson clone.

I am sick, totally sick, of the crap that represents this once proud club...and the root cause is this arrogant yet deluded yorkshireman.

Where is the character in the team? Where are the talismans who can get the crowd going?

What we need are the Johnsons and Hyde's, the Mooneys, players who gave their all, the Robinsons....we have no characters or leaders...what we have is a load of lower division rubbish and i'm sick of it.

Bring in Gary Johnson, with Nigel Gibbs and Luther...lets get back to the good old days and play attacking football with real characters with real style...

Otoole my arse!

But you have a fair point, the timing of this announcement is curious. Middle of January when the news coming out of The Vic should be about new signings.

Tend to agree with you John Boy whilst signing Ainsworth is good for the future and securing O'Toole for a few years both add to the depth of the squad I am not sure either add to the quality of the 11 starters for Saturday.

These moves will both be seen as positives by the WFC spin but in the final analysis we seem to do nothing in the transfer market.

Yesterday Argyle signed a Scottish 'B' international Chris Clark who can play centre of the defence or holding midfield. he cost £200k...and whilst he might not be an Owen hargreaves or a Rio Ferdinand he was most probably what we needed.

It occurs to me with the sacking of our head scout that when we signunknowns they come from local sides or sides we have lent players to or play against. Maybe our scouting system needs a total overhaul but then I would have expected that to have been dealt with in Boofers first year and we should now be into fine tuning.

When GT came he brought in Bertie Mee who sorted such structures out and at that time we didnt have the type of cash flow we have enjoyed in the last couple of years. Either we have recruited very badly in which case Aidy hold your hand up as sacking the chief scout and head of youth in last 12 months isn't good or are we needing to deflect the blame?

If this is the case it reflects badly on the board and Aidy and I really dont think we can blame colin for any of it even if he goes OTT.

Also I was glad to see Administrator Town had a chance of rescue and was impressed that the overpaid Gerrard put them to the sword unlike Croatia but he cant be expected to be inspired being paid only £5m a year...almost makes Ashton look cheap ~smile~

Colin, Your comments about Al's mother just show what a sick useless terrace know-it-all you are. The reason why Al gave what seemed like apparantly two different stories about his mother was because he has had no contact with his family back home because of the civil war so he presumed on one occasion she was dead though he had no confirmation of that. I would love you to live through something like a civil war in a Third World country. The you would have something to moan about. All your whining on this site about 'boo hoo my team is only third and the manager can't get the team to play like Brazil, it's so unfair' and your tasteless comments about Al compared to the dignity shown by Al Bangura speaks volumes about your complete lack of humanity. Yes the team aren't playing brilliantly at home, but I would rather be thrid from top than third from bottom (which is where we were I believe when Aidy joined us).

Erik, are you aware that the civil war in sierra leone ended in 2002? Perhaps this news hasn't reached Lincoln yet. Even the UN withdrew its troops some two years ago so don't give me any of that rubbish about him thinking his Mum was dead.

while we're at it you say he gave two apparently different stories, well they're not apparently different they are different. One minute she's alive tjhe next she isn't, is that different enough for you?

Colin: I always search for your posts as there is usually some points that you raise that are worth debating although IMO you are way over the top on most. I guess you would call me a 'clapper' (or worse)as I still think Aidy has 'earned' some time BUT not all is rosey in the Watford garden at this time.
The Al Bangura thing was a cheap shot and weakens any otherwise valid points you may raise.

Glad to see that there are some positive posts regarding our club today. I thought until now that I was in a minority.

More news for you, it's my sons 2nd B'day in February & have requested grandparents to purchase him a home replica kit. None for sale in the store, they asked when some in stock ? The reply was not until next season now when the NEW home kit is being launched....Wasn't it July 07 launch for the current strip which followed the 125 year 1 year only home shirt. I have justed called The Buzz store and got the same story from a satt member. So now confirmed WFC are attempting to squeeze the supporters for another home shirt or are the sponsors pulling out ...???Hmmmm

Colin,
Er where in my comment did I say the civil war was still going on? I did not because I know it has ended. Typical of you to criticise something you have not read properly, or has reading not reached where you live. He said his mum was dead because he thought at the time he had no communication with his family and presumed the worse. Try reading, you never know, you may learn something.

Oh dear Erik. Did you or did you not say "The reason why Al gave what seemed like apparantly two different stories about his mother was because he has had no contact with his family back home because of the civil war"

So he did not know for the past 6 years, ie since the war ended, whether his Mother was dead or alive? How come then that in a Watford matchday programme he said he called her regularly yet after the publication date in an inteview with the immigration office he stated thatshe was dead?

Come on clever Erik please tell us.

I suppose you think it's alright to deny the existence of your mother to keep a nice cushy job in someone elses country.

So I again challenge you to explain how the lie to the immigration office following the truth in a matchday programme has anything to do with the civil war in Sierra Leone.

Colin (the irritating one), Without commenting further on the apparent inconsistencies of Al's statements, I bet if you'd fled a civil war at 15 and come to a strange country everything you would have said would be perfectly in accordance with everything else. You contradict yourself every week on this site without the fear of being sent back to a third world country whose infrastructure is shot to pieces. My understanding of the case was he had said his mother was dead when he had had no contact with her for some time after fleeing. Happy now? You can still not tell me where you think I wrote that the civil war was ongoing. I also think the comments you put on this site about Al are extremely distasteful and borderline racist. 'Some ones elses country'. Sorry, didn't know you owned the UK.
PS Thanks for calling me clever, I am suitably flattered!

Calling someone a liar is racist? Please explain.

Did I say the Uk was owned by me? I said it was someone elses country , not his.

Your original posting was so badly written that it conveyed the excuse that the Sierra Leone civil war was in progress when poor Al told the stories to the Immigration Office, it seems beyond belief that a war that ended some 5 years ago could cause confusion at the time Al denied the existence of his mother. Although in hindsight I realise your intellecutal difficulties might cause you to become confused over issues of timing.

Furthermore you are incapable of understanding sarcasm which explains volumes.

Colin,
Being from Watford I have only ever been to Sincil Bank when Watford have played friendlies there. What a stupid thing to say. Why don't you go and watch St Albans? You seem to want to insult everyone for where they live or come from. But I'm sure that not a sign of you being prejudiced (by the way, that is sarcasm).

Your comments you posted when Al's troubles first started I considered racist. I still do.

As for sarcasm it is you who cannot understand it, I was being sarcastic about the clever comment as any idiot could see, but obviously not you. The only good thing to come out of this extremely pointless arguement is that I haven't seen you post any 'told you so' comments under the King moving the Fulham stories as you seem to be so obsessed with answering what I say.

By the way, who is this some-one else that owns Britain? If it is not you then who is it?
