The Joely Bear Appeal is holding its 40th blood donor session in Borehamwood on March 16.
Participants will be able to enjoy free entertainment and refreshments as they roll up their sleeves to make their contribution. The charity hopes to collect enough blood to cover patients' needs over the Easter holiday period. The appeal was launched in 1994 by Leigh and Lisa Renak after the death of their son, Joel. The charity has worked to improve the quality of hospital stays for young patients with cancer, while providing grants for research. Cancer patients need regular transfusions, and every donation can potentially save up to three lives. If you are aged 17-60, weigh over 7st 12lbs, and are in general good health, you can participate in the session at Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue, Croxdale Road, between 9.30am and 4.30pm. To become a regular donor, call the 24-hour National Donor Helpline on 08457 711 711 or visit www.blood.co.uk.
