Council workers have been accused of driving their vehicles the wrong way along a one-way street in Borehamwood.
Residents have spotted waste collection vehicles turning illegally out of Woodlands School in Alban Crescent.
Neighbouring resident Lorraine Harris, said she has reported the problem to Hertsmere Borough Council on three separate occasions but has seen the vehicles continue to flout the rules.
She said: "The dustmen come to the school at 6.30pm on a Monday to collect the bins, but when they drive out of the school, instead of turning right the correct way up the road, they turn left because it is quicker.
"It is very dangerous and I am worried the my father who walks up that road will be hurt because he is 90 years old and partially sighted. He does not expect vehicles to be coming the wrong way."
A council spokeswoman said: "We have received reports of vehicles driving the wrong way and had told the dry and wet household rounds not to do it. We have now told the trade crew to adhere to the road signs at all times, so hopefully this will resolve the matter."
Miss Harris added: "The drivers are flouting the law and I think Hertfordshire County Council should put up metal bars or posts at the entrance of the school to stop vehicles exiting the wrong way."
