A Mill Hill teenager has sung her way into the semi-final of a national competition to find the stars of tomorrow.

Fifteen-year-old Georgia-May Palmer, who is studying for her GCSEs at Mill Hill County High School, Worcester Crescent, overcame chronic asthma to wow the judges in the Idol 2008 competition.

She now faces a final round in Croydon in her bid to reach the regional finals, en route to fulfillng her ambition to get to the top of the charts.

“It’s been really good fun,” said Georgia-May. “I sang a Tina Turner song and I don’t think there’s many 15-year-olds singing that kind of song, which I think impressed the judges.

“Singing and dancing are my passion. I’ve done it for a long time and I’m just hoping I can get that big break.”

Georgia-May, who lives in Stanmore, has attended the Mill Hill drama and dance school Born Performers since the age of five. Claire Wood, who runs the school and has taught her for the past decade believes she has what it takes.

“She’s wonderfully talented in both dance and singing,” she said. “She’s got a phenomenal voice and she’s definitely a star for the future.

“She wants to become a pop recording artist — she’s like a young J Lo. Hopefully this will help her get some publicity.”

Georgia’s mum, Linzi Palmer, added: “Georgia’s in and out of hospital all the time. She’ll kill me for saying it but I’ve known her to go through her dance routines at auditions, come off and use her nebuliser, then go out and dance again.

“A lot of kids as ill as she is might give up but she’s so determined, she’s at auditions all the time no matter what and I hope she’ll make it.”
