A resource centre for visually impaired residents was given a Christmas boost following a £1000 donation to improve its service.
Barnet Association for the Blind, based at the Flightways centre in Colindale was awarded the cash from the Stanmore and Edgware Rotary Club to help increase its range of products which enable its users to lead more independent lives.
The items range from low-tech devices such as a liquid level indicators to very expensive items such as CCTV systems which enable partially-sighted people to read small print via a TV screen.
Users are given the opportunity to test products before purchasing them elsewhere but, thanks to the donation, some items will now be available at the centre.
Christina Hind, centre manager, said: "This donation will help with the development of the Resource Centre and ensure its future for years to come.
"It will be much more convenient for our users to purchase the more popular items from us directly, rather than have to wait for them to come by mail order."
