Firstly I must seriously apologise for my lack of bloggage. I guess having a baby is an all-consuming exercise and every time I sat to put my thoughts down something seemed to happen. But with my precious boy now a few days shy of three months I have finally found a few moments to update you.
Watching any baby develop is a truly fascinating experience. And with your own child it is all the more endearing and wonderful. Over the past three months the most significant milestone has been that he now smiles. Proper ear to ear dimple clad grins which are even occasionally accompanied by gurgles of joy and giggles of excitement. Even at four in the morning when I am less than impressed at being woken by a baby screaming for attention, seeing his beautiful face staring back at me with that edible smile melts me. It’s indescribable. For all the tiredness and mundane reality of routines and baby needs seeing your child recognise you in a crowd and smile just because they are happy to see you is phenomenal.
He is also sleeping a little better which has been a blessing. There is no true rhyme or reason to his sleeping patterns as some nights will be bad and some great but I can’t complain because it’s hardly as bad as the dreaded first six weeks when I slept in three hour stints. If I was lucky.
And we’ve endured his first set of injections which he was much more brave with than his mother who blubbed more than him. He was so good thankfully.
I am really enjoying motherhood. My confidence grows every day. I am getting to know my son a little more with every waking moment and I am loving every second of it. I could just stare at him all day, not least because he actually is the most handsome child ever. Often people stop me to tell me how gorgeous he is and they can’t be biased they are strangers.
I am now just starting to join groups and meet other mums so as to provide a network for both of us. If I didn’t get out of the house every day I think I would go stir crazy. When you’re with baby it is so easy to become confined to your own home but it’s vital to get out and about, however much it requires taking with you. In fact I went to one mum and baby group this morning and have done my shoulder in from carrying the car seat in to the building and up three flights of stairs. The unforseen perils of motherhood!
Anyway it’s wind down time so I had better go. I promise to try and come back on here soon.
