Business doesn't have to be dirty, say Potters Bar pupils

A POTTERS Bar school brought science and enterprise to life at a soap-making workshop last week.

Year 9 pupils from Mount Grace School, in Church Road, learned about developing, marketing and selling a new product at the ‘Enterprise Soapbox’ day in King Charles The Martyr Church Hall, in Mutton Lane.

The workshop aimed to teach the 150 pupils about teamwork, enterprise, communication, the environment, leadership and the importance of product development.

Janette Smith, head of vocational education at Mount Grace School, said: "The Enterprise Soapbox day proved a real success with pupils, inspiring them to think about all aspects of product development.

“The workshop put everything the pupils have learnt about business and enterprise in the classroom into a practical context, which was both fun and very stimulating.

“It also really motivated the other teachers to look at how they might use more practical applications, like the soap-making, to bring learning to life in the classroom."

The day was organised by Innovative Enterprise, a Lancashire-based company that helps children learn about business through real-life, interactive projects.

Andrew Bernard, the facilitator from Innovative Enterprise, said: "In just one day pupils from Mount Grace learnt a whole host of vital life skills, including developing self confidence, using initiative, improving organisational and leadership skills, and all while having fun.”
