Concert to be held in memory of 7/7 victim

A BENEFIT concert is being held in memory of a Hampstead Garden Suburb woman killed in the July 7 bombings.

Miriam Hyman died in the Tavistock Square explosion on July 7, 2005, at the age of 32.

The performance by the Alyth Youth Singers at the North Western Reform Synagogue, in Alyth Gardens, Finchley Road, Golders Green, will commemorate Ms Hyman's life and raise money for the trust set up in her name.

The show, on July 8, is timed to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the bombings.

Mavis Hyman, Ms Hyman's mother, said: "Music was one of Mim's greatest pleasures so this is another fundraiser that she would love.

"We really appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in putting on an enjoyable and life-affirming evening.

"It seems such a fitting way to mark the anniversary of the bombings."

Last year the family donated £100,000 to equip The Miriam Hyman Children's Eye Care Centre in north-east India.

By donating this money, from compensation payments and donations to the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust, the family hoped to raise awareness of the high incidence of avoidable childhood blindness in developing countries.

Ms Hyman, a freelance picture researcher from Holyoake Walk, was travelling to work at Canary Wharf when she was told by her agency not to come in.

She left King's Cross Tube station and, amid the chaos following the explosions, sat down on a pavement at 9.45am to call her father and tell him she was fine. Police believe she died minutes later in the bus bomb in Tavistock Square.
