A BURGLAR took advantage of the heat wave to climb into a Finchley home through an open window.
The incident occurred between 10pm on Tuesday night and 10am yesterday morning in Rosemary Avenue when the burglar climbed through a front ground-floor window, making off with money, credit cards and a laptop.
Police are following up forensic leads and have advised residents to close doors and windows, despite the weather.
DCI Tony Caetano, of Barnet Police, said: “Everyone is enjoying this bout of hot weather but we want to make sure that one group of people that don’t benefit from it are burglars.”
Burglars have also been peering through letterboxes and snaring car and house keys enabling them to take vehicles or access homes without having to force their way in.
Officers are warning residents not to leave keys or any other valuables in sight or reach of their letterboxes.
DCI Caetano added: ”Crooks are out on the streets of the borough looking for easy opportunities to burgle homes and our message to householders is don’t make it easy for them.
"Close windows and doors if you aren’t in a position to watch them and don’t leave valuables near open windows or letterboxes.”
If anyone has any information on the incident in Rosemary Avenue, contact DC Brad Crossley on 020 8733 5854 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
