A GROUP of yoga teachers will raise money for multiple sclerosis sufferers this summer.

The team of six teachers will run six classes at the New North London Synagogue, in Finchley, beginning on July 21.

They will give their time for free, with the £10 fee for each learner going to the Barnet and South Herts branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The classes have been run for each of the last three years, with previous recipients of the donations including the North London Hospice and the deaf-blind charity Sense.

Androulla Krase, one of the teachers, said: “I teach people with multiple sclerosis myself and thought it would be nice if they had the benefits this year.”

Multiple sclerosis is the most common neurological condition among young adults in the UK, affecting around 85,000 people.

It is a condition of the central nervous system - the brain and spinal cord - which controls the body's actions, such as movement and balance.

Ms Krase said: “Yoga really opens them up because most of them find it difficult to control their movements.

“It makes their breathing much deeper. Many of them are in wheelchairs and it helps them to sit up a little bit more.”
