Coleman in breach of council code

THE Mayor of Barnet has been found in breach of the council code of conduct following an email exchange with a blogger.

The standards sub-committee today upheld a complaint against conservative Councillor Brian Coleman made by Mill Hill Musician Roger Tichborne who he branded an "obsessive, poisonous individual”.

Independent investigator Melanie Carter had previously concluded in a report that Mr Coleman had failed to comply with Paragraph 3 of the code: failing to treat others with respect.

Representations were made to the hearing by Mr Coleman's solicitor Stephen Hocking, of Beachcroft Ltd, but he was unable to persuade officials that the London assembly member for Barnet and Camden had acted in a proper way.

Chair of the committee, independent member Stephen Ross, said the breach was not serious enough to warrant a sanction being imposed on Mr Coleman, but he is liable to reimburse the council for the £10,000 legal cost paid out to employ Beachcroft Ltd.

Mr Coleman had left the meeting before the conclusion and was not present to hear the decision.

Here's hoping that the ten grand finds its way back to the Barnet Council coffers swiftly Mr Coleman. I'm sure it could be better employed helping regenerate the area that you are in charge of?

This man is an embarrrassment to his party and the public offices to which he has been elected. If the Conservative Party wishes to represent itself locally and nationally as a party of integrity, and to endorse David Cameron's avowed espousal of transparency and accountability in politics, then Brian Coleman has no future within its ranks. Public office is, or should be, undertaken for the good of the community, to serve their best interests. This is supposed to involve listening to, and showing respect for, the varying concerns and opinons of all constituents, who have placed a representative in that position of trust and rightly expect that person to remain accountable to them, and to conduct themselves with dignity, modesty and diligence. Councillors and Assembly Members who choose to spend their time in self indulgent, attention seeking behaviour should be shown the door and replaced with candidates who have a genuine commitment to service and hard work.

Every single Barnet Councillor should be sacked. The one thing they all have in common is being more interested in themselves than representing anybody

Mr. Coleman should be made to pay interest on £10,000 he received to fight his cause by means of employing best that money could buy. The breach of code of conduct is not confine to him alone as the code is governed by Councillor who will not investigate unless matter was proved beyond reasonable doubt at the point of complaint. If complaints made by public were to be investigated then majority of councillors would not probably be in office. Is not it so, Mr. Coleman, tell the truth.
