A MAN is facing trial after being charged with rape by Barnet police.
Richard Shaw, from Aylesbury, was arrested and charged in connection with the serious sexual assault of a woman in Victoria Park, Finchley, on September 16.
The attack happened at about 8pm near the entrance with Etchingham Park Road and the tennis courts in the park.
The 27-year-old has been remanded in custody awaiting trial at a crown court.
Officers sealed off the park for almost a day while forensics experts carried out thorough investigations of the scene.
Patrols by the safer neighbourhood team were stepped up in the area to reassure residents following the attack and personal safety advice was issued by police.
