THE final two men involved in the smash and grab raid on a Barnet Jewellers were handed suspended sentences yesterday.
The men had been part of a gang who used a sledgehammer and an axe to break into V jewellers in Heddon Court Parade, Cockfosters Road, on June 18.
Following the bungled raid, the men were traced to an area of wasteland in front of some garages in Enfield where seven of them were arrested. An eighth man was arrested in a nearby car park a short time afterwards.
Matt Williams, 25, of Lincoln Court, Enfield and Dean Armstrong, 18, of Inworth Walk, Islington, were sentenced yesterday at Southwark Crown Court for conspiracy to steal.
Both received a nine month sentence, suspended for two years. They will each also have to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
In addition, Armstrong is barred for having either direct or indirect contact with any of his seven co-defendants in this case for two years.
On Monday, the other six gang members were sentenced to a total of 22 years seven months imprisonment or youth detention for conspiracy to commit robbery at Southwark Crown Court.
