HOUSEHOLDS left without gas over the weekend have also been hit by electricity cuts.
Loss of electricity in East Barnet was caused by an overload of the system after National Grid handed out 1,500 electric fan heaters and between 600 or 700 plug-in boiling rings to people left without heating and cooking facilities over the weekend.
Currently, 1,000 householders are without gas in the East Barnet area.
A spokeswoman from EDF Energy said that power was interrupted to 35 customers in the Cedar Avenue area of East Barnet at 7.44pm yesterday, following a fault on the electricity distribution network.
She added: "EDF Energy Networks engineers attended and worked to restore power to everyone affected at 9.42pm.
"We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience this caused."
Gas was cut off yesterday after water entered the gas supply after a main burst.
An incident room has been set up in St Mary's Church of England Primary School, in Little Grove.
