ANIMAL lovers in Barnet are being urged to put out bowls of water to help birds survive the freezing winter conditions.
Deputy chairman of the Barnet branch of the London Wildlife Trust Clive Cohen has warned birds can be among the worst-hit animals when the freeze hits as they dehydrate.
The 80-year-old from Mill Hill said: “People often leave seed out but they don't realise birds also need water at this time of year because they can't get it when it's frozen.
“Birds come and eat the seeds, which then starts to get digested leading the bird to get dehydrated. If people put out a bowl of water and refreshed it once a day it would really help.”
