A STARVING dog was rescued by police officers from a New Barnet address yesterday.
A neighbour called the police with concerns about the welfare of a vulnerable neighbour who had not been seen for some time.
Police officers attended the home in Alexander Close, New Barnet could hear a dog barking, but could not get any answer at the door. Concerned about the homeowner, the officers forced their way in.
Inside they found no people but one under-nourished puppy who they took to a local vet on the advice of the RSPCA.
Veterinary nurse, Natalie White, said: “He was very hungry when he arrived and just wolfed down his first meal.
“He is a lovely puppy, a Boxer/Staffordshire cross and we have nicknamed him Rufus.
“He is responding well to treatment and should make a full recovery.”
Police have traced the owner and are liaising with the RSPCA over any further action.
