GRITTERS are still only spreading on 85 miles of roads around Barnet as the supply of salt is still limited to just 277 tonnes in the borough.
Over the past two nights lorries have spread 44 tonnes of salt on the main resilience network roads, as temperatures have dropped below freezing yet again.
Overnight light showers left a dusting of snow across many northern parts of the borough, but conditions are predicted to get worse with heavier sleet and snow towards the end of the week.
The 339 yellow grit bins are also being refilled to allow residents to grit in their own streets to help combat icy conditions.
During the freezing weather in January council chiefs admitted there were struggling with only three day's worth of grit stockpiled.
Councillor Daniel Thomas, who is in charge of transport said: "With the government having control over the distribution of grit, we and other local authorities are having to prioritise how and where we use our stocks.
“While this remains the case, we are continuing to grit the borough's resilience network to make sure major transport routes keep moving and the least possible disruption is caused to our residents."
