CHERIE Blair was the special guest at the launch of a new million-pound project to renovate a house in Edgware for charity.

Mrs Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, joined members of Jewish charity Langdon for the launch of The Quadrant fundraising project in Manor Park Crescent.

The charity, which supports 25 youngsters with learning disabilities in Edgware, aims to provide additional residential facilities after the 18-month £1.75m refurbishment is complete.

It will also have new training rooms to allow more adult education courses to take place.

Mrs Blair, who visited the site on Monday, said: “I was delighted to be invited to Langdon.

“It was so refreshing to meet so many of the residents whose positivity is a reflection on when supported living works it benefits the lives of those who need that additional hand of support.”

Barry Welck, Langdon's chairman, said: “We know our own residents currently thrive by having their own community which help them lead a structured and very full life.

“Sadly, there are a number of non-residents with learning disabilities who have no social life, therefore have no social connections with young adults their own age.

“The Quadrant will be the focus point, much needed within this community.”
