Pretty Harmless Stuff?

The NHS is currently sending out a mail drop. It contains important information about care records. It seems the NHS is collecting data on our medical histories; treatment etc which it says will help deliver better safer care. It is called summary care records it all sound pretty harmless. Who could argue about Health Professionals having access to relevant data when they treat patients? Especially as the NHS is giving assurances about who will be able to access this information There is a provision to opt out. But how many of us will want to do that. Over time, the leaflet notes further details will be added to the summary care records. All of this will be stored online using secure website.

Barnet Council is currently working on its Corporate Plan 2010-13.A key driver of the plan (on page 20 of the draft) is the creation of “a common insight function” What on earth does this mean? A clue can be found later on. “This will enable us to have a good and growing range of information about residents and make better use of local intelligence”

Barnet is also pressing ahead with it Future Shape Programme. On of its key drivers is to link up with local Partners .The aim is to avoid duplication, share resources, information etc. Who is one of these local providers? Step forward The NHS.

As I said it all appears harmless.

I would have thought Libertarians and Liberals would have argued against such sharing of private medical data.

As the Liberal Democrats aren't Liberal at all any more (for example supporting bans on people enjoying a glass of wine at a picnic, at Kenwood or anywhere public) I shouldn't be surprised they find this 'harmless'.

Seems the national Conservative Party is the only one to defend individual liberty against the Big Brother state.

Dan,

I wrote to David Cameron to ask his view on Conservative Barnet Councils plans to introduce a superdatabase. He didn't reply. I rather suspect that you are being naive in putting your trust in the Conservative party. After all, if they were against this, they wouldn't have let the architect of the policy stand for MP in Finchley and send David Cameron to personally endorse him

Oh Danny boy Danny boy, you are right about 'Libertarians' will argue about sharing the individuals data. However, the Liberal Party have never been in power since before your creation, to enact legislation limiting the freedom of the individual. you are a Conservative, following your lot came 'New Blue Labour'. So between the two over the past 30+ years, we have seen the Data Protection Act protecting those with any amount of power from any inquiry by the adversely affected individual . We have seen more CCTV than any other nation, short of CCTV in our bathrooms, We now have identity cards, next a numbered tattoo is possible at birth, today try taking a photo of yourself with Big Ben in the background. All of this is the Liberals fault over the last 30 years in power.

Left & Right alike, Stalin, Marcos, Pinochet, Honecker, Hussein, Mao Mugabe. One distinction, we don't disappear just like that, but we could be locked up for breaking wind.Vote for Dan Hope

Cricklewood residents will be safe - Barnet council are unable to produce a map acknowleding our existence and the local councillors refuse tom represent us. It is therefore likely that we will simply be left off any database.
