Barnet transport chief says underinvestment has not cause potholes

THE councillor in charge of roads around Barnet has denied poor maintenance in past years has led to thousands of potholes appearing around the borough.

Many residents have started using the Fix My Street website, which allows people to electronically report cracks in their roads, which have been caused by the icy weather earlier this year.

However, some have complained the council has been slow to react to some potholes, which have caused problems for many motorists.

Councillor Daniel Thomas who is responsible for roads, said so far more than 1,500 had been filled in since the end of January.

He added: “I've driven all around London and a lot of the boroughs are in the same position, it's not just Barnet.

“We're currently undertaking a review of all the roads in the borough to see what the most cost-effective method will be.

“We can't be completely immune from the physical conditions, we've got to get on and review it and fix it."

He also praised the new website saying “It certainly creates more work for us but it flags up problems which need to be fixed”.

If the roads of barnet are falling to bits, what other explanation can there be, other than neglect? Why can't he just admit it

Why haven't the two absolutely bloody enormous holes in the road at the top of Greyhound Hill at its junction with Church Road been fixed yet? They've been there for weeks and are extremely large, sufficently so that cars have had at least one wheel fall in and get a bit stuck.

don't worry guys: the nearer we get to the election, the better the chances of those holes magically disappearing ... or, plan b. we could tell our beloved Mayor what a brilliant traffic calming effect they have and he is sure to get them filled in asap!

"Barnet transport chief says underinvestment has not cause potholes"
Is he implying that potholes were caused by OVERinvestment?
Maybe we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and recycle some of our useless councillors by employing them to fill in potholes instead of waffling in Council Committees?

No doubt only the pot-holes in favoured tory areas will be filled.

Barnet do not adhere to the Code of Practice for Highway Maintenance although they say they do.

If your property is damaged by pot-holes, expect Barnet to deny all responsibility, then if you take them to court, be prepared for Barnet to conceal any evidence of their negligence, and then to pursue you for legal costs.

If you think this is unlikely, it's not - they did this to me.

The pot-hole depth at which all councils accept that they need to act, is 40mm (or under two inches) There are hundreds of pot-holes deeper than this across the borough. In 2007, Barnet allowed Veolia Water to ruin West Hendon Broadway. The repairs costs £250,000 of YOUR money.
