THE councillor in charge of roads around Barnet has denied poor maintenance in past years has led to thousands of potholes appearing around the borough.
Many residents have started using the Fix My Street website, which allows people to electronically report cracks in their roads, which have been caused by the icy weather earlier this year.
However, some have complained the council has been slow to react to some potholes, which have caused problems for many motorists.
Councillor Daniel Thomas who is responsible for roads, said so far more than 1,500 had been filled in since the end of January.
He added: “I've driven all around London and a lot of the boroughs are in the same position, it's not just Barnet.
“We're currently undertaking a review of all the roads in the borough to see what the most cost-effective method will be.
“We can't be completely immune from the physical conditions, we've got to get on and review it and fix it."
He also praised the new website saying “It certainly creates more work for us but it flags up problems which need to be fixed”.
