Treasured heirloom ring of Holocaust survivor snatched from pub bar

AN ENGRAVED ring which survived the Holocaust to be handed down through two generations has been stolen from a Potters Bar pub.

The yellow gold ring was inside a black leather purse when it was stolen from the Admiral Byng Pub in Darkes Lane, last Wednesday (March 3).

The theft took place between 2.20pm and 2.40pm while the ring's owner ordered a drink at the bar.

She told police that she believes she was distracted by somebody at the bar and her bag stolen.

The ring belonged to her grandfather, who survived the Holocaust to pass on his treasured possession.

It has two names engraved on the inside: Joseph Kapling and Annette Smith.

Sally Johnson, investigating, said: “The owner of the purse is very upset about the ring being stolen as well as it holds a great deal of sentimental value to her. 

“I would urge anyone who has been offered a ring for sale similar to the one described to get in touch.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone in the bar acting suspiciously around the times the purse was stolen.”

The ring was inside a black leather bag with a diamanté clasp.
