A MOTORCYCLIST sustained serious head injuries in a road crash in East Finchley this afternoon.

Ambulance crews were called to Cherry Tree Hill, at the junction with Woodside Avenue, following the incident which involved a car and motorbike at about 1.15pm.

The air ambulance was sent to the scene, along with paramedics and a duty officer.

A man, thought to be in his thirties, was taken to the Royal Free Hospital, in Hampstead, with head injuries. He was accompanied as a priority by the doctor who arrived in the helicopter.

The A1000 has been closed between Woodside Avenue and the A1 Archway Road since the crash, but is expected to reopen ahead of the rush hour congestion.

Traffic reports said roads in the area are “coping well” with the disruption.

A diversion has been in place affecting the 143, 234, 263 bus routes.
