Monken Hadley Common flytipping removed says Barnet Council but help us catch dumpers

A PILE of rubbish dumped in a beauty spot has been removed, according to Barnet Council.

The rubbish left right by a no dumping sign on Monken Hadley Common by Bakers Hill, was branded “appalling” by a local resident who saw it on March 2.

Postgraduate student, Santosh Rudravajhala, 24, of Meadway, stopped in the middle of a 12km run to photograph and video the pile, posting the video on the YouTube website to raise awareness of the problem.

Barnet Council's cabinet member for environment and operations, Cllr Daniel Thomas, said a member of the public had reported the flytipping on March 2 and the council had arranged for it to be removed.

He added: "The area has been used in the past by flytippers and 18 months ago the council installed a gate at the bottom of Bakers Hill to prevent further flytipping. It also carried out a letter drop to residents of Bakers Hill requesting assistance in identifying the culprits.

“This proved successful until recently when flytippers have begun using the car park at the bottom of Bakers Hill.

"The council takes flytipping very seriously. Flytipping is illegal and carries a maximum penalty of £50,000 and 5 years imprisonments.

"As this area is frequented by dog walkers and joggers we would like residents to be our eyes and ears and report any incidents of flytipping they witness on 020 8359 7498."
