Men jailed following hit and run death on the A406 near Hendon in December 2008

TWO men have been sentenced for dangerous driving after a man was killed on the A406 near Hendon in December 2008.

A judge at Wood Green Crown Court yesterday jailed Marios Kasparavicius, 23, and 22-year-old Shayan Khonsari after the pair were charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash which killed the 26-year-old driver of red Volkswagen van at 3.25am on December 15, 2008.

The victim, Wayne Sweeney, from Dunstable, was driving on the A406 North Circular Road, and was turning onto the A1 north bound when his van was hit by a black Range Rover travelling east bound on the A406.

Police said a second car stopped at the scene and removed the driver of the Range Rover and took him from the scene.

Mr Sweeney was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. A post mortem carried out later gave the cause of death as a head injury.

Kasparavicius and Khonsari were later arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently charged on June 3, 2009.

Kasparavicius pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving on September 4 last year, and was handed a seven year jail term, as well as being disqualified from driving for five years.

Khonsari pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on January 18. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and disqualified from driving for three years.

The sentence that was passed to Marius Kasparavicius was indeed a good one, although nothing will ever bring Wayne back some justice has been done. Wayne's son Harry who is 7 years old has had his dad taken from him by mindless selfish irresponsible people. We have lost a valued family member who was loved by every one. The family would like to thank the police for all their hard work, and hope in future judges will take the lead from the judge who passed this sentence.

The sentences that were given to these two individuals was a just one.
Although no sentence could have ever been enough justice prevailed. Wayne was a young man who will be ssorely missed by anyone who knew hhim. I hope when these two grow up and have a family they will realise just what they took from us. Unless you have been in this situation or a situation where a member of your family is taken from you, it is hard to describe the feeling. I will never forgive Mr Kasparavicius or Mr Khonsari for the pain they put my family through, Needless to say Wayne will never be forgtten.

Although the sentances Mr Kaspavicius and Mr Khonsari recieved were better than we expected, it will never bring Wayne back, or ease the pain we have been through. I thoroughly believe that a drunk driver behind the wheel of a car is just as deadly as someone carrying a knife or a gun. In my opinion drink drivers who kill should be charged with manslaughter. Wayne will be sadly missed.
