Libraries start to turn a new leaf

Barnet Council has teamed up with 22 other local authorities to produce a 40-second advert to be shown at cinemas in the borough.

The commercial will advertise libraries and all the things people in the 17 to 25 age group can do at their local library. The advert features a group of friends who go to the library to organise a party; it later shows the same group out at a nightclub. And there you were thinking people went to a library to do such absurd things as reading books."This is a real breakthrough for public libraries," said Councillor Katia David, whose cabinet responsibilities include culture.
