DREAMS of a Wembley final were ended for another season when Chalfont bowed out The FA Vase with a 2-1 loss at Hythe Town on Saturday.

The defeat cost Danny Edwards' team a place in the last 32 and £1,200 prize cash. He said: "We've beaten better sides than that this season but too many of our players had bad days."

Sloppy defending saw Hythe take a 2-0 lead to the break. Although Andy Goddard reduced the deficit in the second half, an equaliser proved elusive.

The disappointment was short-lived however, as they returned to winning form on Tuesday when they beat Camberley 2-0 in Ryman League Two. It was the Saints' third league triumph in succession and lifts them to the upper reaches of mid-table.

After Saturday's cup setback, Chalftont would have been excused a sluggish start against Camberley. Instead they exploded out the blocks and were in front after just 120 seconds, Barry Brosnan continuing his superb form of late with another goal.

Camberley were game opposition and threatened an equaliser a number of times before Brosnan added his second after 57 minutes.

Chalfont will hope to continue their league form at home to Hertford Town tomorrow (ko 2pm). With just one win in nine previous league games, Town should prove perfect opponents for a side on the move.
