POLICE have confirmed the identity of a man killed in a horrific road crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim had yesterday been named locally, but Scotland Yard verified later that the body had been formally identified as Libor Kuchar, who lived in the Hendon area.
Next of kin have been informed, police added.
The 34-year-old Slovakian national was killed by a VW Golf which careered off the road, smashed into a bus stop, a lamppost and wall, before bursting into flames in Hendon Lane, at about 2am.
A statement from police said a post-mortem examination at Finchley Mortuary on Sunday gave cause of death as multiple injuries.
An inquest is scheduled to open and adjourn at Barnet Coroner's Court later today.
Mr Kuchar was yesterday described by shocked friends as “a nice, lovely person” who was loved by all those who knew him.
A second man, believed to have been Mr Kuchar's friend, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Police said a 20-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed to return to a north London police station on August 2, pending further enquiries.
Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit, at Alperton, continue to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the collision to call them.
Anyone who can assist should call 020 8998 5319.
