TWO men arrested following a high-speed police chase that ended with a third man being struck by a train have been bailed.
The suspects, aged 21 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away a Mercedes CLK 230, and have been bailed to return in September pending further inquiries.
They were chased by officers after they refused to stop in Ordnance Road on Monday afternoon.
They eventually stopped by the Enfield Lock level crossing, but one man jumped the barriers and was hit by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed the man is a 20-year-old Romanian who lived in Ireland with his girlfriend and three young children, but police await formal identification.
A post-mortem examination will take place today.
An inquest is expected to open tomorrow at High Barnet Coroner's Court. Officers from the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards are investigating.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also been informed.
