Man who gave first aid to teenager after moped crash in West Hendon Broadway yesterday morning says it was like a bomb scene

A KINGSBURY man gave first aid to two teenagers injured in a “horrific” crash coming home from Hendon Mosque.

Malcolm Speed, of Sedum Close, said it looked “like a bomb had hit” the road after a meat delivery van and a moped carrying the two youths, thought to be Sulman Khan, 16, and Moheen Khan, 18, hit at around 5.30am yesterday.

The pair, believed to be from the Kingsbury and Colindale area, were thrown off the bike on West Hendon Broadway, just after 5am.

Mr Speed, a Dunel Property Services employee, was driving to a construction site in Wolverhampton when he saw the aftermath.

The 50-year-old father said: “It was horrific but I knew when I looked up and saw these two motionless bodies on the floor that no one was doing anything for these kids.

“I went through adrenaline, I jumped out of the car and assessed who was the worst injured.

“I saw one of them breathing and went straight to the one who was covered in blood because he was making a gurgling noise.”

Mr Speed put Sulman, the moped driver, in the recovery position and tried to stop him from moving, making sure his breathing was stable while paramedics raced to the scene.

He said: “It seemed like an eternity but within five minutes there was an emergency response car there. I heard them saying they couldn't get the air ambulance in because it was too dark.

“It did look like a bomb had hit that area, there was debris everywhere, the two bikes were far apart and there was a helmet in the road.”

He turned his attention to the other teenager, Moheen Khan, talking to him as he lay prone and motionless on the tarmac.

Mr Speed believes he may have helped save Sulman's life – the teenager has been left with life changing injuries but survived the crash.

His cousin Moheen was less seriously injured but was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Mohammed Zubair, 28, of Woolmead Avenue, Hendon, saw the bike hit a meat delivery van in West Hendon Broadway.

He said: “I just saw the vehicle and the bikes crashing in. I was shocked. The passenger's brother was following them as well.

“They were both injured – one was screaming and crying, the other was conscious but he was just not moving.”

The van driver was uninjured and no arrests have been made.
