A MAN was yesterday ordered to serve one day in prison as punishment for urinating on a war memorial in Golders Green.
Unemployed Donald Notice, from the Barnet area, was arrested at 3.15am on Sunday for disorderly behaviour while drunk.
The 44-year-old was spotted by CCTV operators urinating on the war memorial, at Golders Green Crossroads, and police were called to the scene.
He was held in custody at a north London police station and appeared yesterday morning at Hendon Magistrates Court.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and was fined £100 of a possible maximum of £1,000, or told he could serve a day in prison.
He opted for custody for one day meaning the fine will now not have to be paid.
