POLICE have confirmed the teenager killed in Mill Hill yesterday morning died from a gunshot wound.

A murder investigation has been launched after the 17-year-old boy, named locally as Marvin Henry, was found with injuries to his upper chest at the Inglis Barracks site, just after midnight.

He was taken to Barnet General Hospital, but pronounced dead soon after arrival.

Detectives initially thought he had been stabbed, but a post mortem examination at Finchley Mortuary yesterday formally gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

People living close to the site say they heard three gunshots around the time of the incident.

Residents in the area have reported “gang warfare” breaking out in recent weeks across the estate between rival factions.

Detectives from the homicide and serious crime command are investigating and a statement said at this early stage, officers retain an open mind as to the motive to the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicky Wall, who is heading the investigation, said: "The circumstances leading up to the death are still unclear.

“What we do know is that there would have been a number of people at the location and possibly some commotion between them.

“I am appealing to anyone who was there or may have seen or heard anything to come forward and speak to us."

A 14-year-old boy is among eleven people arrested in connection with the investigation and all are being held at various north London police stations.

A 21-year-old woman, three 18-year-old boys, four 17-year-old boys and two 15-year-old boys are also being questioned.

Anyone with information is urged to call the incident room on 020 8345 1585 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
