A HIGH school singer songwriter from East Barnet is preparing for an audition which could lead to a performance at the O2 Arena.

Brooke Lawrence, from Ridgeway Avenue, is through to the regional finals of the Open Mic UK competition after impressing judges in the under-18 category earlier this month.

The 15-year-old will be singing one of her own songs, White Knight, at the event in Hayes, on November 20, and success there will see her progress to the national finals, to be held at the O2 Arena.

Brooke, who has been singing since she was ten, said: “I write my own stuff and collaborate with as many people as I can.

“Singing is my comfort zone and it's when I feel most comfortable.

“But it was really scary having the judges in front of me. They didn't say anything when I finished. I didn't think I would get through, and when they called my name up first I was really puzzled.

“My dream is just to be known for my music.”

The Southgate School pupil said her main influences come from a blues, rock background, and is confident her latest song will be a hit at the finals.

She also sings with a band, Fallen Millie, and is hoping for a lot of support in the finals.

She said: “Hopefully my friends and family are going to come along.

“My mum takes me everywhere. She loves it. She's a real stage mum.

“I don't know how it will go, I am just excited to perform my own song on stage.”

Organisers of the national talent competition, which offers a recording contract and £30,000 to the winner, said: “We are searching for an act that not only has the live ability to impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates, but an act that has the potential to become a professional recording artist.

“The standard was high last year and this year it has been even better. Acts that have made it through to the area finals will really need to give it their best performance because they could be performing at the best live music venue in the country.”
