A FILM screening is taking place at the Phoenix Cinema tomorrow as part of the Black History month celebrations.
The newly refurbished cinema, in High Road, East Finchley, will be showing Burning an Illusion (15), a pioneering black feature film about a young woman living in London who questions her identity.
The free show, which will also feature an audience Q and A with the director, Menelik Shabazz, is the third in the cinema's From the Archives series, and is being run in partnership with Black History Studios.
Eleanor Sier, Heritage Officer, at The Phoenix said “We're really pleased to be involved in Black History Month, and we've had a great response to this screening already.
“Three decades after it was made, Shabazz's first feature continues to hold such attention because it puts a young black British woman at the centre of the story and it focuses on her life as a young woman, not as a symbol of black experience.”
From the Archive is a series of 18 free screenings showing old archive film running until August 2012.
Screenings will focus on various themes, such as black, South Asian or Deaf culture, or subjects including architecture, fashion or sport.
