A ROBBER who bullied Tube passengers, including a 14-year-old, into handing him their mobile phone has been jailed for 26 months.

Wayne Williams, of Holden Road, Barnet, admitted on count of robbery and six of theft after being identified by CCTV circulated by the British Transport Police.

The 40-year-old approached his victims near Tube stations including Totteridge and Whetstone and Finchley Central and demand they hand over their phones saying it looked like his cousin's which had been stolen.

He then told them he had to show it to his cousin to verify if it was his, but when the victim asked for it back he threatened them with violence.

He committed the offences between February and April, but was stopped when a woman came forward to identify him from CCTV put out by the police.

Detective Constable Dick Mortimer, who investigated, said: "I have no doubt that these were very intimidating experiences for Williams’ victims.

“CCTV images placed him at the scenes of the crimes leading to a guilty plea in court.

"I would also like to pass my thanks to a woman who came forward and provided us with the information we needed to identify Williams and bring him to justice.”
