AN exhibition showcasing craft created by cutting-edge digital technologies is on show in North Finchley.
Crafts Council’s Lab Craft: Digital Adventures In Contemporary Craft can be viewed for free at artsdepot in Nether Street from midday to 4pm every day until Sunday, June 26.
Traditional craft skills have been combined with digital technologies to create unusual and unfamiliar objects which aim to take a fresh look at how technology can be used.
Lab Craft features jewellery made from sound waves, table lights created using a 3D printer and “Bubble jewellery” by Lynne Maclachlan.
Ms Maclachlan used computer and digital generative techniques as well as rapid prototyping technology to mimic bubbles and foam.
The exhibition’s curator is design commentator Max Fraser and includes textiles, ceramics, furniture, jewellery, glass and lighting by 26 makers and designers including Tord Boontje, Michael Eden and Nina Tolstrup.
Rosy Greenlees, executive director of Crafts Council, said: “Lab Craft showcases some of the most innovative contemporary craft being made today and the exhibition is a great way of exploring and understanding the technologies and methods that connect the digital and the handmade. This is the only London tour venue for Lab Craft and we are sure that it will attract many people.”
Max Fraser will be giving an informal talk on Lab Craft at artsdepot tomorrow at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £4, and £2 for students and booking is recommended. To make a booking contact the box office on 020 8369 5454.
