MYSTERY still surrounds the discovery of two human bones near a busy road in Hampstead Garden Suburb in March.

Police have now closed the investigation into the remains, which were found by a dog in the gardens of Widecombe Court next to the A1 Lyttleton Road on March 24.

Murder suqad detectives were initially called in following the find after forensic tests established the bones were human and from a leg.

But officers concluded they had been there for some time and decided the find was not suspicious.

It is thought they could have been dug up by an animal from the East Finchley Cemetery, which is about a mile away, and carried there.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said detectives were still collaborating with Barnet coroners office, but have not established who the bones belonged to.
