BRAVE residents showed community spirit in washout conditions on Sunday to hold the first street party in their East Barnet road for 59 years.
Around 120 people attended the Big Lunch event in Jackson Road, with one 86-year-old resident who had lived there all her life meeting the street’s newest addition, who is just seven weeks old.
Residents enjoyed a variety of food and games, including a fancy dress parade, treasure hunt and musical games.
Wendy Alcock, who helped organise it, said: “It was so good and people didn’t let the rain put them off. We had people who had lived on the street for 40 years but didn’t know each other meeting for the first time. It really brought people together.”
