BARNET councillors granted permission to residents to film inside its meetings last night.

A meeting of the full council voted through a change to the constitution that will let members of the public record on the mobile phones but opted not to run webcasts.

Councillor Richard Cornelius, the leader of the Tory group on the council, withdrew the whip to allow his members to vote with their consciences.

The vote came after bloggers clashed with the council over whether they should be given permission earlier this year.
