CAMPAIGNERS are hosting a special party at Friern Barnet library today, in a last ditch attempt to show Barnet Council it is at the heart of their community.
Residents are trying to persuade the council against its plans to move the library in Friern Barnet Road, into the artsdepot nearly two miles away.
A petition has been signed by more than 2,000 people who argue the closure will affect the most vulnerable people in the area as well as detriment hundreds of children’s literacy levels.
Today residents are encouraged to visit the library from 2-4pm and show their support for the Save Friern Barnet Library campaign.
There will be free refreshments, music and a competition for the best ‘save our library’ banner.
Children can take part in a fancy dress competition, and dress-up as their favourite book character.
There will also be an area where people can write an email or letter to the council’s cabinet members, opposing the library’s closure.
The plans will be considered by Cabinet on Tuesday July 26.
