A MOTHER-OF-TWO is appealing for help after being plagued by persistent pigeons that mess on her balcony.

Zoe Powell, who lives on the top floor of a block of flats in Canterbury Road, is concerned her daughters are at risk of catching a disease.

The 26-year-old, who has lived in the flat for four years, said she fights a weekly battle to clear up after pigeons which nest in the roof.

The birds have also been known to fly into Ms Powell’s flat and she once found her two-year-old daughter trying to put an egg in her mouth.

Ms Powell, who said she was at her wits end, feels aggrieved that neither her housing association nor the council’s environmental health department have done something to remedy the situation.

She said: “I’m stuck as to what to do. It is frustrating, it feels like they are waiting for something to happen to me or my children before they will act.

“I don’t think I should be the one to pay out for this, if it was a private landlord you wouldn’t be expected to pay.”

The council, which does provide some pest control services, does not dispatch birds and has no legal obligation to.

After The Borehamwood & Elstree Times contacted housing association Affinity Sutton, the organisation has said it is working to find a solution.

It has gathered quotes for installing netting on the apartment blocks affected to try and prevent the problem and is hiring pest control specialist for certain cases.
