AVIATION enthusiasts are holding an annual Night of Nostalgia to teach guests about the history of local aircraft manufacturer Handley Page.
The company, which used to have a factory at the former Radlett Aerodrome, just north of the village, was founded by Frederick Handley Page, in 1909.
During the Second World War, the factory produced the famous heavy bomber the Halifax, but financial pressures through the Sixties, eventually forced the company to close in 1970.
Members of the Handley Page Association will celebrate the history of the company at Bricket Wood Social Club, in Oak Avenue, this Friday from 8pm.
Deputy chairman of the group, Chris Scivyer, said: “The event brings together former HP employees and their families, and others with an interest in the former aircraft company.
“On show will be hundreds of photographs and memorabilia relating to Handley Page employees and their aircraft.
“Many of the photos were taken at Cricklewood Aerodrome during the period 1914 to the early Thirties. Others cover the period between 1929 and 1970 and include views taken in the Park Street and Colney Street facilities at Radlett Aerodrome.”
People interested in learning more about the aircraft company are welcome to attend the free event. For more information, contact Chris Scivyer on 01727 873491.
