WORSHIPPERS at a synagogue and a mosque will join forces to encourage shoppers to donate items at a superstore in Palmers Green for a homeless charity on Mitzvah Day.

Members of the North London Reform Synagogue (Sha'arei Tsedek), in Oakleigh Road North, Whetstone, will join people from Palmers Green Mosque, in Oakthorpe Road, for the event outside Morrisons, in Aldermans Hill, Palmers Green, on Sunday, November 20.

Members of both communities will be encouraging shoppers to purchase additional items which at the end of the day will be delivered to Homeless Action Barnet.

Rabbi Colin Eimer, from the North London Reform Synagogue, said: “This event is really very important for the Jewish and Muslim community to work together. It is good to build relationships within the community and Mitzvah Day is the ideal peg to hang this sort of thing on.

“We have a long association with the charity we are supporting. Other charities were suggested but it is a local well-known group who do a lot of good work so we are happy to support them.

“We will be outside both entrances of Morrisons and hope people are generous in helping us out on this day.”

Journalists at the Times Series newspapers are still looking for a worthy cause to help as part of this year’s Mitzvah Day.

Perhaps a community centre needs redecorating, or a green space needs clearing up?
