UP to ten cases of egging have been reported following a public appeal from Barnet Police over the anti-semitic fuelled attacks.

During the past two weeks 10 incidents have been reported to Community Security Trust, a Jewish community organisation working alongside local police, but it is feared that the actual number of incidents is much higher.

The eggs have been thrown out of speeding cars at Jewish residents walking around Golders Green Road and Brent Street on Friday and Saturday nights, the Jewish Sabbath.

Dave Rich, a spokesperson from CST said: “Friday night tends to be when a lot of visibly Jewish people are on the streets, going to and from the synagogue. There’s sometimes racial abuse involved and sometimes not.”

A 35-year-old man from Golders Green, who wishes to remain anonymous for safety reasons, had an egg thrown at him last Friday, when he was walking on Golders Green Road at 10.30pm.

He said: “I was really very angry and annoyed. We’re supposed to live in a world of tolerance and racial equality, but then when you’re just walking down the street, you get eggs thrown at you.”

He added: “This sort of thing does happen regularly. We just deal with it, and we have to move on.

"I only spoke up this time because of how widespread it has been. The concern is that it’s not a one-off attack. It’s pre-meditated, and the worry is, who knows what it could escalate to?”

Barnet Community Safety Unit is investigating the crimes and local Safer Neighbourhood Teams have changed their duties to ensure the areas affected are patrolled during the Sabbath.

The investigating officer DC Damon Cotter said: “We are committed to stamping out this sort of crime.

"I would appeal to anyone who has witnessed this vile behaviour, or who has been a victim and not yet reported it to police, to contact your local police or appropriate third party reporting site.”

“I understand the problems of reporting crime on the Sabbath, but I would ask any victims or witnesses to contact us as soon as they are able.”
