Britain’s most successful marathon canoeist Anna Hemmings MBE helped launch an Olympic-inspired sport project at a school in Hendon yesterday.
Youngsters at St Joseph’s Junior School, in Watford Way, welcomed the six times world kayak champion as they got ready to embark on the Be the Best you can Be programme.
The project centres on the 2012 Olympic Games, aiming to inspire young people through sport.
Headteacher Irene Ciapryna said: “I was determined our school would be one of the first primary schools to undertake the Be the Best you can Be programme as it begins to roll out nationally.
“The inspiration offered by Olympians, Paralympians and high achievers who strive to achieve their dreams is incredibly powerful and can really reach out and engage our young people.”
At the end of the programme pupils will be presented with a medallion produced by the Royal Mint, encouraging them to continue working towards their goals.
