A television star helped launch a vocabulary project at a school in Colindale this week.
Claire Skinner, who is best known for her role in BBC One series Outnumbered, attended an assembly marking the start of Word Week at The Orion Primary School on Monday.
Word Week aims to inspire children to develop their vocabulary, reading and writing as well as their creativity. To coincide with the project, Ms Skinner spoke about becoming an actress and the many lines she has to learn.
Chris Flathers, headteacher at the school in Lanacre Avenue, said: “It's about improving the children’s reading, writing and listening skills and being able to express yourself in a positive way. But it’s also about making learning more exciting and fun.”
Throughout the week pupils will take part in a range of word related activities including poetry and spelling competitions. They will also meet comedian Ian Billings and photographic artist Jimmy Symonds.
