Travelodge has announced its intention to build five hotels in the Barnet borough by 2025.

The budget hotel chain is currently looking for space to open new branches in Brent Cross, Golders Green, Hendon, Mill Hill and New Barnet.

A representative said the company is already in discussions over a number of possible locations with at least two thought to be at advanced stages.

Nick Dines, representing Travelodge, said: “We can’t reveal who it is we are in talks with but we’re hoping to make a further announcement in the near future.”

Once open, the hotels will employ 120 staff recruited through a scheme with Job Centre Plus that aims to increase opportunities for people out of work.

In a statement, Travelodge chief executive Guy Parsons said: “Barnet has a severe lack of good quality budget hotel rooms given the size of its population, local attractions and proximity to central London.”

The company is hoping to build hotels with 200 bedrooms in Brent Cross, 100 in Golders Green and 80 in Hendon, Mill Hill and Barnet.

All of the buildings will be subject to planning permission from Barnet Council.

The development comes as part of a wider expansion by Travelodge as it looks to open 184 new hotels across London.
